Kandinsky College has had a debate club for vwo 4, 5 and 6 pupils since 2015. The club is called Idema and is named after the five canons of rhetoric: inventio, dispositio, elocutio, memoria and actio. The debate club meets every week to debate and also participates in different debating contests and moot courts.

Debating sessions

During the debating sessions you will learn how to debate on a variety of relevant social issues. You will also learn how to speak confidently in front of a group and will receive constructive feedback. Through debating you can learn how to empathise with others and how to better understand other people’s opinions. Furthermore, to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant issues and to argue in a rational manner. As a member of the club you will participate in debating contests, as well as promoting the debate club and debating contests for junior education and school activities.

A few times a year you and your fellow debaters will go to the Radboud University to practice with students from the debating society ‘Trivium’ and to judge other debates. Being able to debate is not only very useful, it is also a lot of fun too!
